Cowgirls. Victoria secret models. Police officers. Sheep. Little Red Riding Hood. Hermoine Granger. It is the one day of the year you can be whoever you want. Happy Halloween!
In college, Halloween is a widely celebrated holiday. Everyone dresses up to go out. And everyone dresses up provocatively. For the most part. Occasionally you get someone dressed as a sheep or a nun, and that’s hilarious. But for the most part, you see more skin on people (both boys and girls) than you would at the beach.
Before you click out of this post, know I’m not going to tell you to not do that. Cause that would totally make me a hypocrite.
What I’m going to say is to OWN IT.
BUT, that doesn’t mean you should lose all sense of self respect.
If you’re going to dress up as a cowgirl with shorts that are two sizes to small, a tied off flannel, a bombshell bra and cowgirl boots – do it. But you have to own it. If someone calls you some kind of vulgar word, you need to be ready for it. If you have self respect for yourself, the comment will roll off your back and you can move on with your celebrating.
Chances are, whoever is trying to tear you down, is probably dressed similarly to you. Maybe someone comments or subtweets about your cute Instagram post the day after. Don’t engage. More than likely, they are jealous. Or they literally have nothing better to do, which is almost worse (for them, not you).
When it all comes down to it, who in the hell cares? This is your life and this is the one night out of the year it is acceptable for you to become Candice Swanepoel. Or a sheep. Whatever floats your boat.
Have fun this Halloween, but retain some self dignity.
